What are your weekend plans?

Here at Indian Country Today Media Network, we like a little pow wow action in our weekends.  We’ve put together a little list of some pow wows that are taking place this weekend all around the country.  So if you’ve got some time on your hands for tasty food, lively music, vibrant dances and stunning art, these are the events for you.

Napi Friendship Centre 40th Anniversary, Alberta

When & Where: January 20th – 22nd at the Napi Friendship Centre in Pincher Creek, Alberta.

This weekend’s festivities in Alberta will be filled with competitive powwow dancing. Dance categories will include Men’s Buckskin, Traditional, Old Style, Fancy, and Grass as well as Junior Boys and Girls and Women’s Buckskin, Traditional, Fancy, and Jingle. Contestant will compete for prizes ranging from $300-$4,000. Your MC’s will be Earl Old Person and Hal Eagle Tall. For more information about this event, click here.

American Indian Winter Gathering, Iowa

When & Where: January 21st – 22nd in Keokuk, Iowa.

This two-day event will be filled with demonstrations like Flint knapping, flute making, and other arts and crafts. There will also be an exhibit on Native Genealogy, a canoe camp, multiple slideshows, story telling and a 50/50 drawing. For more information about this event, click here.

7th Annual Honoring Traditions, Ohio

When & Where: January 21st – 22nd in the AAA Building at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds in Lancaster, Ohio.

Deemed as an “Eastern Woodland Native American Celebration,” this event will offer attendees a variety of Native American drumming, dancing, and singing. There will also be serving traditional Native American foods like Indian tacos. For more information about this event, click here.

2012 Otoe-Missouria Encampment Benefit, Oklahoma

When & Where: January 21st in Red Rock, Oklahoma.
