Cherokee Nation Marshals Take 'Polar Plunge' to Raise Money for Special Olympics

February 21, 2013

Nearly 30 Cherokee Nation Marshals will brave freezing river temperatures when they dive Saturday, February 23, into the icy Illinois River near Tahlequah for this year’s “Polar Plunge” to raise money for Special Olympics Oklahoma.

Last year, the Polar Plunges throughout the state raised more than $250,000. Proceeds from the fund-raiser go toward lodging, meals and uniforms for the athletes at the state competition.
