Oneida Nation Makes Annual $100,000 Presentation to Verona Fire District

On June 17, Chuck Fougnier, Wolf Clan member of the Oneida Indian Nation Council, presented a check for $100,000 to the Verona Fire District, which covers the town of Verona in Central New York.

The ceremonial check represents the four quarterly installments of $25,000 each the Oneida Nation provides the fire department with through a service agreement. According to a Nation press release, the money go into the district’s general fund, which helps pay for items like firefighter protective equipment.

The agreement was forged in 1993, and since then the Oneida Nation has paid the Verona Fire District more than $1.3 million. Verona provides fire protection and rescue services to Turning Stone Resort Casino and other Oneida Nation properties in the district in conjunction with the Nation’s Public Safety Department according to the release.
