President Barack Obama today, June 26, released an executive order that establishes the White House Council on Native American Affairs.

The Order recognizes a government-to-government relationship, a legal, and political relationship with federally recognized tribes. In the Order, Obama addresses the need to work together for a brighter future, while remembering the history of mistreatment and destructive policies that hurt tribal communities.

“This order establishes a national policy to ensure that the Federal Government engages in a true and lasting government-to-government relationship with federally recognized tribes in a more coordinated and effective manner, including by better carrying out its trust responsibilities,” Obama said in the Order.

The full Executive Order can be read below:

This is an Amazingly big deal! I'm just wondering where the money will come from for this order, for it to make a differences in the Native Communities!? (The definition of, availability of appropriations, is pretty bleak.) Reading this actually made me tear up! I hope and pray for the best, so that this order can make a difference where it is needed! Amazing day in Native American history!

Clemency for Leonard Peltier is another way to start the healing ... Obama 90 minutes is all it takes to do the right thing.

Way to go Obama, standing up for our people and our rights. The government may finally be attempting to hold up their end of the treaties! Now we just have to get Harper to follow suit....

I smell a FISH. This sound like another branch of the BIA to establish a puppet Indian council within the White House, that is controlled by the Secretary of the Department of Interior to possible in the end circumvent the authority of the governments of the American Indian sovereign nations and the Congress of American Indians and to violate independent tribal council government sovereignty rights and to place the authority directly in the hands of the W.H.C.N.A.A. council and the United States Government. What is most interesting is that this newly established White House Council on Native American Affairs, does not recognize state tribes and or tribal nations that are not federally recognized. What is this new council really about and what are you up to Obama? “TRUST THE GOVERNMENT ASK AN INDIAN”

Oh boy another pacifier to keep us quiet, not to mention another waste of time and tax payer monies to create, yet another layer of paper work, so we can feel like we have a say so on reservations. But, it will get some people some jobs, so it might weight out.
