Video: A Pipeline and a Promise to the Land

There were 15 riders, trotting on horseback over the plains, tracing the routes of three pipelines that would crisscross the land that nurtures wild rice and shelters the aquifer.

Earlier this month we gave you Winona LaDuke’s chronicle of that journey. This video carries those very words as narrative, taking us through the ride, along with a detailing of the projects they are fighting along the way.

Anishinaabe activist Winona LaDuke and her fellows rode “to protect, not protest,” the Keystone XL, the Sandpiper and the Alberta Clipper, the latter an expansion of an existing pipeline.

“We called this the triple crown of pipeline rides,” says Winona LaDuke in the narration.

In this Christmas season especially, as we celebrate life and the return of the light, we are buoyed by such struggles.

Watch the video below, then read the very words written by LaDuke.
