11 Cool Rez Pup Photos From All Over Indian Country

Vincent Schilling

ICTMN is asking our readers to send in cool photos of their rez Pups. We recently sent out word on our Facebook page, Twitter and Google+, and received some great submissions!

We appreciate the love and dedication of these furry members of our family! Your rez pups certainly are looking great in these first 10 photos.

If you’d like to submit your rez pup photo, just send us an e-mail at [email protected], along with a picture, the dog’s name and age, owner’s name, rez you’re from (or near) and city and state, and we'll be glad to post!

Oscar Mayer Wiener Dog and Buster Brown Shoes

Jim and Pat Northrup say that their two cool rez pups are full-blood, but aren't enrolled anywhere. They live on the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation in Sawyer, Minnesota; Oscar Mayer Wiener Dog is 4 and Buster Brown Shoes is 1.

Ernesto Wakalapi Cikila

According to Abena Songbird, Ernesto is not exactly a rez pup—more an urban Native warrior—but Ernesto Wakalapi Cikala (Little Coffee—Abenaki/Lakota/Chicano) was an unofficial mascot at the Black Hills Wacipi a few years back and has brought joy to many urban and rez Natives. They hail from Rapid City, South Dakota and Ernesto is 8 years old.

Ernesto’s pup regalia was made by Tim Whiteface (Lakota).
