Sherman Alexie: Ban My Book, Please! [Video]

Sherman Alexie is against book-banning and censorship—let's get that straight. Alexie always ranks among the most challenged authors, meaning his books are challenged by parents or groups who object to their inclusion in curriculum or libraries. He wishes he didn't have to fight against people who mischaracterize his work and would like to silence him.

But Alexie is amused by the self-defeating nature of the book-banning phenomenon: Once you tell kids they can't read something, they all will want to even more. Clearly, the frequent attacks on his young-adult novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian have become, to some extent, a never-ending free advertising campaign.
