NCAI President Wears Patriots Jersey After Losing Super Bowl Bet, Says Jersey ‘Is Burning’ Him!

3/5/15 reported that during NCAI’s winter session in Washington, D.C., last week, National Congress of American Indians President Brian Cladoosby, chairman of the Wash. State Swinomish Tribe, made good on a Super Bowl bet.

Cladoosby, who rooted for the Seattle Seahawks, was forced to wear a New England Patriots jersey, which was presented to him on stage by Narragansett Tribe council member Randy Noka. "This is an historic moment, ladies and gentlemen," Noka joked, according to, when he gave Cladoosby the jersey.

When Cladoosby put it on, he exclaimed, “This is burning!”

"Is there a button where you can inflate it?" Cladoosby said referencing #Deflategate, the controversy regarding whether the Patriots deflated footballs in the AFC Championship game against the Colts to gain an advantage.

Despite a bit of theatrical pouting, Cladoosby was a good sport. "That's what I love about Indian country, you know -- our humor," he said. "When we lose our humor in Indian country, we're in trouble."
