Justin Giles, Broken Arrow/Arbeka Ceremonial Ground and Interim Director Muscogee (Creek) Nation Cultural Center & Archives and Arnold Taylor, Arbeka Ceremonial Ground look up close at the 1790 Treaty of the Muscogee (Creek) Nations and the United States on Monday, March 16, 2015 at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington. 1790 Treaty of New York Arrives at NMAI

A delegation from Muscogee (Creek) nation was on hand in Washington, D.C. on March 16 to witness the arrival of the 1790 Treaty of New York. The treaty is part of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian “Nation to Nation Treaties Between the U.S. and American Indian Nations” exhibit.

The 1790 Treaty was the first treaty between the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and the newly formed U.S. government. The treaty was delivered from the National Archives and Records Administration, and this exhibit at the Smithsonian is the first time is has been displayed to the public.
