Tweeters Protest Adam Sandler’s ‘Ridiculous Six’ With #WalkOffNetflix and #NotYourHollywoodIndian

Last week, a dozen Native actors walked off the set of Adam Sandler’s latest movie, The Ridiculous Six, prompting outrage in Indian country that spilled over into social media. Twitter activists rallied around (at least) two hashtags in particular: #WalkOffNetflix and #NotYourHollywoodIndian. #WalkOffNetflix is a campaign to encourage cancelation of Netflix accounts on the grounds that the company encourages racism by producing the Sandler movie, which is part of a multi-picture deal Sandler has with the streaming service. #NotYourHollywoodIndian is a more direct statement to Sandler that Native Americans will not accept the dated, stereotypical portrayal he and others continue to put into their movies.

Both tags inspired many favorites and retweets, and sparked discussion. #WalkOffNetflix, additionally, sparked action: As shown in some of the sample tweets below, many tweeters attached screenshots of their cancellation notices to their tweets.
