On Saturday, July 11, 2015 Amanda Blackhorse, the lead plaintiff in Blackhorse vs. Pro Football Inc. delivered the keynote speech at the Native American Journalists Association (NAJA) Conference. During his introduction of Amanda Blackhorse, Ray Halbritter called on Indian country to recognize the 17-year battle previously fought by Suzan Harjo.

“Suzan Shown Harjo has been one of the greatest civil rights heroes in the last few decades, no speech about the Washington Name issued without a reference to the fact that we all stand on Suzan’s shoulders in this fight.”

“She has been our guiding light in our conscience for decades,” Halbritter said.

In response to the Washington ruling, Harjo says she felt vindicated. “It is such validation of the 23 years we have been in litigation… It feels like I felt when my first child was born,” Harjo said.

“We are not to be forgotten,” Harjo said.
