Today four days of training and business development kick off in Santa Fe for the Reservation Economic Summit (RES) New Mexico. The multifaceted event, presented by the National Center For American Indian Enterprise Development (NCAIED), offers unparalleled access to respected tribal leaders, members of congress, federal agency representatives, state and local elected officials and top executives.

The regional RES event includes a Native-owned business tradeshow, expos on Native procurement and business matchmaking powered by the U.S. Small Business Administration, business innovation and economic development forums, an Interactive Access to Capital Fair, and a Native American artisan market. The Native American 40 under 40 Awards will also be presented during the Indian Progress in Business (INPRO) gala, Wednesday, November 18, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The cost is $100 per ticket or $850 per table of 10 seats. The INPRO Awards Gala is the oldest and most prestigious Native American recognition event acknowledging accomplishments and contributions made by American Indians and those who support their economic and business development endeavors.

Additionally, tomorrow night the National Center will host a benefit dinner for Valentino Tzigiwhaeno, the son of George Rivera, former Governor of the Pueblo of Pojoaque. On March 21, a severe car accident sent Valentino into cardiac arrest, requiring resuscitation on the scene. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, atlanto-occipital disassociation (spine separation from skull), and a fractured jaw and hip. Following multiple surgeries and pediatric intensive care, he now has a tracheotomy for breathing, gastric tube for feeding, a collar to treat the spinal separation and a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt that relieves pressure on the brain caused by fluid accumulation. The benefit dinner at the Pueblo Ballroom at the Buffalo Thunder Casino and Hotel on November 17 from 6-8 p.m. costs $150 Plate or $1,000 per table of 10 seats, and a live auction will be held at the event. Donations raised and the proceeds from the RES New Mexico benefit auction will be used to offset Valentino’s medical expenses beyond insurance coverage, as well as the cost of living expenses that Valentino’s parents and grandparents incurred while staying in Baltimore with him at Kennedy Krieger.
