Suicide, a problem drastically impacting tribal communities, is all too familiar to the Indian National Finals Rodeo (INFR), which lost four talented Native American rodeo contestants to the epidemic in the last two years.

The National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA) is partnering with the INFR to spread suicide awareness throughout Indian country. The collaboration between the two trailblazing national associations is called "Skills for a Better Tomorrow - Positive Beliefs."

The two non-profit organizations will be joined by Dr. Blair Matheson, INFR's arena physician, as well as contestants to focus on prevention through a greater understanding of the motives that surround suicide victims.

"We are honored to be partnering with the INFR to promote this suicide prevention awareness campaign. So many of us have experienced the devastations related to the loss of a family member or friend to suicide, and it is important that we continue to do everything possible to provide avenues of education and dialogue." Chairman Stevens said.

The partnership will be offering workshops for rodeo contestants, families and friends of the rodeo organization as part of the Junior and Senior Rodeo Championship event entitled "First Skills for a Better Tomorrow - Positive Belief Discussions," on Thursday, November 5, 2015 beginning at 9 a.m. at the South Point Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, as part of the 40th Annual Indian National Finals Rodeo.

The National Indian Gaming Association and the Indian National Finals Rodeo encourage all of Indian Country to join in helping spread suicide prevention awareness. NIGA applauds the INFR and their continued efforts.

The 40th Anniversary of the Indian National Finals Rodeo will take place on November 3 - 7, 2015 at the South Point Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
