Bundys and Other Militants in Custody, 1 Dead Following Shootout


The Federal Bureau of Investigation has arrested Ammon and Ryan Bundy, along with other members of the militant group that has occupied the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Burns, Oregon, while one militant is dead following an apparent shootout.

At approximately 4:25 p.m. (PST) today, the FBI and Oregon State Police arrested five individuals including Ammon, 40, of Emmett, Idaho, and Ryan, 43, of Bunkersville, Nevada along Highway 235 according to a FBI news release.

Oregonlive.com is reporting the militant death is the result of a shootout and the FBI did not release the identity. However the daughter of Robert “LaVoy” Finicum, 55, of Arizona, told Oregonlive.com her father was to be among the entourage.

Oregonlive.com reports that Ryan Bundy suffered a minor gunshot wound and was taken into custody in the highway stop about 15 miles north of Burns, Oregon.

Arrested with the Bundy’s were Ryan Payne, 32, of Anaconda, Montana; Brian Cavalier, 44, of Bunkervile; and Shawna J. Cox, 59, of Kanab, Utah. All five were charged with conspiracy to impede federal officers, a felony.

A little over an hour later, at approximately 5:50 p.m. Oregon State Police arrested Joseph Donald O’Shaughnessy, 45, of Cottonwood, Arizona in Burns on the same charges.

Jon Ritzheimer, 32, surrendered to police on the conspiracy charge several hours later according to Oregonlive.com.

Also arrested, but details of his charges are unclear, was Pete Santilli, an independent broadcaster who was live streaming refuge events.
