IAIA Alumni Win Big at Heard Indian Fair & Market


Institute of American Indian Arts alumni won a number of prizes at the recent Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair and Market, held March 5 and 6 at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona, reports an IAIA release.

The Indian Fair draws some 15,000 visitors and more than 600 American Indian artists every year, and 22 percent of the awards went to IAIA alumni—19 alumni took home 29 awards.

Jody Naranjo (Santa Clara Pueblo) and Glendora Fragua (Jemez Pueblo/Walatowa) took home the Best of Show prize for their collective piece “Pueblo Luck.” They also won Best of Class: Pottery. On her own, Naranjo was also awarded the Guild 60th Anniversary Theme Award – Contemporary Pottery, along with three other awards.

“Our alumni have been successful in many fields of art, and the awards at the Heard Market this year have again shown their broad range,” Chee Brossy, IAIA Alumni/Constituent Relations Manager, said in the release.
