How Did I Miss That? Boss Boycotts Bigots; Funeral Welfare

Cousin Ray was amused. “There’s no truth to the rumor that Mexico will build a wall around the Yucatan and make the U.S. pay for it…and only let Trump on the beach to clean up after Spring Break.”

Former Florida Rep. Joe Scarborough made my Republican cousin really happy when he called out Democratic Party hypocrisy. The Dems jump all over the GOP’s voter suppression laws, as they should.

Comes now the Wyoming Democratic caucuses, where Bernie Sanders beat Hillary Clinton by 12 points but Sanders will carry off less than half of Wyoming’s delegates.

“The other way to suppress voters,” Cousin Ray rubbed it in, “is to set up rules so their opinions don’t count.”

Scarborough and Sixkiller have a point and the fact that the GOP did the same thing in Colorado does not make it right. The Republican establishment is bending over backwards to stop the least popular candidate in the GOP field while the Democratic establishment is bending over backwards to nominate the least popular Democratic candidate.

The chaos in the Republican primary has the voices in the right wing echo chamber no longer singing from the same hymnal. Donald Trump’s fights with Fox News were only a beginning.

Trump’s campaign manager was caught on video assaulting a reporter from Breitbart, the site known for creative editing. Breitbart’s claims to fame are the heavily edited videos that destroyed the anti-poverty organization, ACORN, and got Shirley Sherrod fired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture because of a video edited to make her speech appear exactly the opposite of what it was. Breitbart, supporting Trump, threw its own reporter under the bus.

This week, civil war broke out in the archconservative Eagle Forum, when the board removed 91-year-old founder Phyllis Schlafly’s president, Ed Martin. The rumor that Schlafly herself would be ousted is untrue. So far. One of the board members in the coup was Schlafly’s daughter, Annie Cori, who was appointed executive director.

The reason for the coup? Schlafly endorsed Trump and the insurgents supported Cruz. In addition to founding the Eagle Forum, Phyllis Schlafly is noted for writing the book identified with Barry Goldwater’s doomed presidential campaign, A Choice Not an Echo. She was also the one person most responsible for keeping an equal rights for women amendment out of the Constitution.

The Washington Post reported that Ted Cruz is “at war” with right wing blogger Matt Drudge, whose Drudge Report is famous for breaking the story about Monica Lewinsky.

Cousin Ray’s head was spinning. “I’m used to liberals forming up in circular firing squads, but this feels strange.”

Newsmax describes itself as “Independent” and “American” but Forbes said it most clearly, calling Newsmax the “great right hope” of the Republican Party. It should be said that Newsmax represents the establishment right rather than the fringe crazy right, but they take advertising that leaves you scratching your head. A recent headline on a paid item, BIG TYPE IN RED: “How The New Leftist ‘Trump Riots’ Are Just The Beginning Of An All-Out Assault On The Power Grid!”

“You know it’s hot stuff,” Cousin Ray laughed, “when they use red type and an exclamation point and capitalize ‘The’.”
