Native Star Wars enthusiasts, costume-wearing Cosplayers, Stormtroopers and even Darth Vader made their way to the first Indigenous Comic Con, held November 18th through the 20th, in Albuquerque’s National Hispanic Cultural Center.

Indigenous Comic Con founder Lee Francis thanked various people on his Facebook page:

“I had the honor of hosting the Indigenous Comic Con here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The three-day gathering of Indigenerds was one of the most amazing and rewarding experiences I have ever had in my life...more than a thousand people came through to engage and immerse themselves in the celebration of all things Indigenous pop culture. There were Indigenerds everywhere!”

Panels, presentations, booths filled with art, t-shirts, posters, artists and attendees from all over Turtle Island came to sell their wares, network and celebrate indigenous creativity.

I do hope someone took the time to cosplay as Ensign Walking Bear? Star Trek's first Native American officer, if memory serves. Most notable for not having an oddly unmotivated Maori tattoo (while I do like Commander Chakotay, that thing struck me as being kinda off, and the explanation given in "Tattoo" always felt unsatisfying...).
