Video: Watch the Trailer for The Lone Ranger

October 03, 2012

Following Disney's distribution of a number of movie stills from, and the official poster for, the highly anticipated film version of The Lone Ranger, the company today posted the first theatrical trailer online. The clip is action-packed to say the least: gunplay, train jumping, horse riding, Tonto (played by Johnny Depp) clinging to the bottom of a train, and an intriguing shot of a train, on its side, sliding across the flat desert plain. In all, the film looks to be in the tradition of the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean movies, on which Depp also worked with director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. There are some hints of Tonto's Native spirituality, but the brief video leaves a lot to the imagination. The film is due in theaters July 3, 2013.

The first thing about this trailer that grabs me, when it comes to Tonto, is his voice. It's a bit of the same old stereotype. It also doesn't sound a thing like Johnny Depp. If that voice is his voice in the movie then someone is probably doing some voice acting, and some dubbing. I wonder how many times that headgear of his flew off when hanging off that train.
