In a vast ocean of suburban dads in drab shirts, khaki pants and Happy Days haircuts, it is always easy to spot Rickie Fowler on the final day of a pro golf tournament. For one thing, he will be wearing his trademark orange polo shirt, a tribute to his college team at Oklahoma State, and he might even be rockin’ a fat, white belt. You can also recognize him by his oversized, stiff-billed Puma cap and he’s usually flashing a big, engaging smile, even if he has just had to scramble out of some nightmarish lie, some predicament that would have left most players weeping.

Such was the case in January, when Fowler made a miraculous recovery during the final round of the Abu Dhabi Championship that propelled him to victory. That win, Fowler’s fourth in nine months, moved him up to the #4 ranking in the world. That sweet little run includes taking the Scottish Open and blowin’ the doors off with a stunning back-from-the-dead charge at the Players Championship that forced his mom to leave her checked bags at the airport so she could return to the course and celebrate his career-defining win. That was the win that proved there was substance behind the promise, grit behind the grin.

Which brings us to perhaps the easiest way to spot Rickie Fowler these days during the final round of a professional tournament: just look toward the top of the leader board.
