Meet the 21 Women Vying for Miss Indian World
The 2015 Miss Indian World Pageant Talent Competition kicked off the Gathering of Nations festivities on April 23. Twenty-one young women, representing their tribes will be vying for the crown. The contestants are judged in the areas of tribal knowledge; dancing ability; public speaking; and personality assessment. The competition continues on April 24 as each of the ladies takes to Stage 49 for the public speaking portion.
The newly-crowned Miss Indian World 2015 will act as a goodwill ambassador for Native and Indigenous peoples at various gatherings throughout 2015-2016. “Miss Indian World is one of the most prestigious honors in the Native American and Indigenous world, and the winner will serve as a role model for all Native Americans,” says Melonie Mathews, Pageant Coordinator. “She will travel the world educating others about tribal and cultural traditions, and bring together Native and Indigenous people.”
The winner will be crowned on Saturday evening at the University of New Mexico’s WisePies Arena (aka The Pit) following the pow wow grand entry.
