This week’s featured image shows welterweight Tat Romero, who is of Metis Michif/Apache ancestry. The 34-year-old is on a six-fight winning streak, and is preparing to step back into the ring on March 6 to take on Benjamin Smith in the main event of a Resurrection Fighting Alliance card at Mystic Casino in Prior Lake, Minnesota.

Even though he’s been winning, he admitted to considering retiring before getting the RFA fight. “For the past two years, I have kind of felt like I was in the playoffs of my career,” he said. “I felt, if I lose again, there just isn’t enough time to accumulate enough wins to make it to the Big Show. To me, the RFA is the Big Show.”

This image was featured in this week’s Indian Country Today Media Network newsletter.
