This week’s featured image shows a crowd united in front of TCF Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 2 to protest the continued use of the name Redskins, by Washington’s NFL team.

“It’s important to remember the history of this word,” said Oneida Indian Nation Representative Ray Halbritter, who has spearheaded the Change the Mascot campaign, in partnership with the National Congress of American Indians. “This is a word screamed at our ancestors as they were dragged at gunpoint off their lands.”

American Indian Movement co-founder Clyde Bellecourt, 78, was an honored presence at the protest, as were longtime activists Winona LaDuke and Charlene Testers.

Let me guess, not a single fan of the team tried to tell the protestors that they were being "honored" nor did any of the fans actually have the guts to "honor" any Natives to their face with the slur. Too bad "being there in spirit" doesn't count much.
