Phillip Edwin Martin, a beloved Quinault elder, walked on January 2 at his home in Taholah, Washington. He was 85, and his Indian name was Hunaschult, or Thunder Elk.
Martin was born in Aberdeen to Clara Bagley and Edwin Martin. He had 13 siblings and grew in a home that had no electricity or running water. He once said: “If you are not used to having it, you don’t miss it.”
