The 29 Palms Band of Mission Indians hosted their annual Spotlight Pow Wow on December 12-14 in Coachella, California.
One of the joys of attending the desert pow wow is watching and listening to the Bird Singers and dancers. The songs are beautiful, and the dancing is very smooth and rhythmic.
Aden Spoonhunter was crowned the men's Ironman Fancy Dance champion. The contest lasted at least an hour and 45 minutes, and 43 songs were played. The Team Dance was also very exciting to watch. And the group "Not Furious Just Fast" won the Women's Fancy Dance contest.
The Spotlight Pow Wow is one of the last pow wows before the New Year. It is a fun, well-organized celebration that made the perfect end to a beautiful season.
