CNB Employees Give $27K to Tribal Health Efforts
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Cherokee Nation Businesses employees are celebrating the end of a successful, yearlong fundraising effort that supports specific health needs of Cherokee Nation citizens.
Heart of a Nation, an employee-driven campaign, raised more than $27,000 for the effort. The funding will be used to provide medically necessary footwear to tribal citizens who are battling diabetes.
“Heart of a Nation is an excellent philanthropic model, and we are blessed to have a workforce at CNB that truly cares about the health and welfare of the Cherokee people,” said Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker.
“The money our employees contributed will directly benefit Cherokee Nation citizens who desperately need assistance with specialized diabetic shoes. It’s good to see these donated dollars stay within the Cherokee Nation and help people who need it the most.”
Throughout the year, employees at the tribe’s business and entertainment properties raised funds through volunteer efforts such as cook-offs, dunk tanks, bake sales, silent auctions, penny wars, Indian taco luncheons and more.
Heart of the Nation is a partnership between CNB and Cherokee Nation Health Services. It is coordinated through CNB’s Community Impact Teams, an initiative to help promote volunteerism and community engagement among employees.
CNB presented the funds at this year’s Cherokee Nation employee Christmas program.
