Sh*t Canadians Say to Aboriginal Women

Yet another video has come out about Sh*t People Say, this one from a young woman in Canada who is "drawing attention to the abuse and victimization aboriginal women face as a result of negative stereotypes in Canadian culture," as the poster says in her written intro.

Unlike the U.S. version, "Sh*t People Say to Native Americans," this is a single scene, uploaded by one "Meshybedosmesh," who made it in response to seeing the Stolen Sisters documentary about Canada's missing and murdered women. The words stream past her head as she stares nearly unblinkingly at the camera, expressionless. She gets it all in there, in an unending, 3.5-minute stream of chitchat from a snippy-sounding female voice that comments on everything from prostitution to the economy.

What do you expect when you call yourselves aboriginal or native?When you separate yourself from society,society separates herself from you.I suggest calling yourself people and leaving the enslavement under the crown that is the queens land.I mean what kind of country charges someone with hate speech?Not a free country!These united states have there flaws but at least we can speak freely without fear of prosecution.

@Adam... um... what about everyone who identifies by any other ethnicity? What about French Canadians? Irish or Scottish descendants? English descendants? Irish/African/Scottish/German/Mexican/French/etc... Americans? You're basically saying that no one has the right to identify themselves with any ethnic group because it separates them from "Canadian" or "American" identifiers. It's really easy for a non-Native to claim that Natives should just call ourselves "people." I suggest you do a little searching to look up "color blind racism." We have a right to identify ourselves with our heritage, our people, our land, and our families without the fear of persecution or a barrage of racist comments and questions.

When will non-aboriginal people look at a map of North America and see that the First Nations people have paid in advance for the meager things they receive. They owned this land although they had no concept of the ownership of land, and were tricked and starved into signing treaties giving away their property. The Black Hills, for example - The treaty said they belonged to the Lakota, but once gold was found there the treaty was just a piece of paper. The USA broke every treaty it ever signed and cheated and stole from the people who were here first. If in the UK people can call themselves Welsh or Scottish or Cornish, why should people here with a long and beautiful heritage not be encouraged to keep being proud of their ancestry? I know many aboriginal people in Canada who do not get free education or medical help. People who criticize the Native people need to do some studying before they open their mouths.
