After almost 20 years playing Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is teaming up with Fox 2000, Donners Company (Producers of Deadpool) and Temple Hill (“The Fault in Our Stars”) to film an adaptation of Sherman Alexie’s Young Adult best-selling book, “Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.”

FOX 2000 has acquired the rights for ‘Absolutely True Diary,’ and no director has been announced.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jackman, who has a first-look deal at Fox, will play a supporting role in the film as well as serve in some producing capacity. Alexie will be adapting the book into a screenplay.

Alexie who also wrote “Smoke Signals” tells the story in “Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian,” of a young Native American teen named Junior, who leaves his school on the Spokane Indian Reservation and attends all-white public school off the reservation.

The novel has been a bestseller for a decade, tackling issues such as Native stereotypes alcoholism, bullying, poverty, and racism.
