Breaking News: Native Gunman Allegedly Opens Fire in Washington State High School
At least five people were shot in Washington State on Friday after a gunman opened fire at Marysville-Pilchuck High School. Two people are dead, including the shooter, who was student at the high school, according to Robb Lamoureux an official at the scene. Officials said that only “one single shooter" was involved.
The shooter, who was identified as freshman Jaylen Fryberg, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, CNN said.
Additional reports say that the gunman was a member of the Tulalip Tribe and appeared to have opened fire on “other” Tulalip tribal members, ICTMN has contacted the tribe, but did not receive confirmation at the time this story was published.
The gunman opened fire in the school cafeteria where he allegedly shot five other students. Fryberg allegedly went up to a table of students, "came up from behind ... and fired about six bullets into the backs of them," witness Jordan Luton told CNN. "They were his friends, so it wasn't just random," Luton said.
Three of the injured students are in critical condition at Providence Regional Medical Center; and a fourth student, who was not in critical condition, was sent to Harborview Medical center, the New York Times reported.
